Reigning Formula E Champions Envision Racing launched Recover-E, a groundbreaking global campaign to raise awareness about the electronic-waste crisis, inspire young people to take action and call on industry to drive solutions and build e-waste circularity. Launched in April 2023, the campaign included the build of a world first – a full-sized, drivable Formula E race car made entirely from e-waste. The campaign also included a global competition, Waste to Race, where young people were invited to build their own mini racing cars from e-waste.

The initiative being considered for the award is the hosting of Extreme E's Hydro X Prix at the former Glenmuckloch opencast coal mine site in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. The event took place on May 13-14, 2023. This initiative aligns with the "BASIS Principles" of ”Engagement and Education”, particularly focusing on raising awareness of climate change, promoting renewable energy solutions, and showcasing a former coal mine's transition to a Pumped Storage Hydropower (PSH) plant and wind farm.

The Toolbox is a free suite of guides, tools, and templates housed within an eight-step process to help organizations create a comprehensive sustainability program. The Toolbox’s mission is to make creating a sustainability strategy accessible to all. Created and led by a British and Irish contingent within 11th Hour Racing Team, we recognise that it can be daunting for organizations to know where to start and how to tackle the complexity of the sustainable transition. In response to a clear need for support from our peers and suppliers, our framework provides organisations with a roadmap to integrate sustainability practices.

Given the location of Edgbaston Stadium away from major public transport networks, spectator travel has been the largest sustainability challenge. Other organisations might have despaired and declared the issue insurmountable due to infrastructure constraints. The Edgbaston management team, however, initiated a series of projects and partnerships to meet this specific challenge. During 2023, the key successful partnership in the Transport and Travel area has been that established between Edgbaston and National Express West Midlands. As a result of this partnership, spectators are moving over to public transport in impressive numbers.

The appointment of a Sustainability Manager at Edgbaston Stadium in November 2022 was critical to the development of the sustainability strategy, the 2023 roadmap and the delivery of the first green cricket fixture in the UK. However, one person cannot deliver all these initiatives on their own. Results have come from colleagues committed to sustainability working together across functions, with the Sustainability Manager holding the tiller to guide the direction of travel. Our dedicated team has consistently demonstrated exceptional commitment and collaboration, working closely with various departments to drive sustainability initiatives that have redefined our venue's environmental and social impact.
