With temperatures reaching 34C and humidity at 70%, the Tokyo Olympics was the hottest Games in history. Competitors fainted on finish lines, required medical attention in sun scorched stadiums, and concerns were widespread over water quality for open water swimming, triathlon, rowing and sailing. Global warming has intensified since then, as has concern among athletes.
