The BASIS Awards are a fantastic celebration of sustainability in sport, dedicated to recognising the people, projects, and partnerships driving meaningful environmental and social change across the sector.
From grassroots clubs to national governing bodies, and pioneering technologies to behaviour change initiatives, our 2025 winners and shortlistees demonstrated measurable change in communities, organisations, and sporting environments across the UK. Their achievements show what is possible when organisations embed sustainability into the way they think, operate and inspire others.
The 2025 awards attracted almost 100 submissions across eight categories from members and non-members alike. Entries came from every corner of the sporting landscape, including cycling, sailing, football, golf, motorsport, leisure centres and many more, showing fantastic momentum behind sustainability across a diversity of UK sport.

Environment Positive
The All England Lawn Tennis Club (Wimbledon Championships)
The All England Lawn Tennis Club embedded its Environment Positive framework across its year round operations and The Championships, driving action to reduce environmental impacts and integrate sustainability throughout the organisation. The initiative demonstrated how major sporting events can deliver positive outcomes for sport, communities and the environment while leading by example across the sector.

Team Green
London Marathon Events
The 2025 TCS London Marathon introduced Team Green, a sustainability initiative that encouraged 5,000 participants to forego baggage as part of their race day experience. By reducing transport requirements and the need for participant bags, the programme lowered emissions while inspiring runners to take an active role in the event’s environmental efforts.

Euro 2024 Production
ITV Sport
ITV Sport’s UEFA Euro 2024 Sustainable Broadcast Project demonstrated how major live sporting events could be delivered using renewable energy and more sustainable production practices. By combining remote operations, modular set reuse and green power across the UK and Germany, the project reduced travel, energy use and material waste while maintaining high quality tournament coverage.

Partnership: Collaborations that Deliver Impact

The Clean Water Sports Alliance
Royal Yachting Association
Launched by seven national governing bodies, the Clean Water Sports Alliance aimed to unite the sport sector in order to tackle water pollution through policy influence, data driven advocacy, and collaboration. The alliance has since grown to represent 11 sports, demonstrating the collective impact organisations can have in protecting and improving the UK’s waterways.

Environmental Action
Fulham Reach Boat Club
Combining sport, sustainability and community action, Fulham Reach Boat Club delivered measurable environmental impact through citizen science, river cleanups, and the adoption of low carbon technology. Since 2024, the initiative has engaged more than 250 volunteers, removed over two tonnes of waste from the Thames, and introduced electric coaching boats.

Carbon Reduction Award
Celebrating the organisations that made the most impactful climate action effort to measure and reduce carbon emissions over the year 2024-25.
UK Sport Accelerator Programme
Sporting Giants & Useful Projects
The Accelerator Programme supported 30 Olympic and Paralympic National Governing Bodies to embed carbon reduction and sustainability across their operations. Through workshops, masterclasses and peer learning, the programme enabled organisations to measure their carbon footprints, develop action plans and drive collective climate action across the UK sports sector.

Nature
Celebrating work to protect and restore habitats, biodiversity and the natural environment in and/or around sports venues and facilities.
The LIFE Recreation ReMEDIES Project
Royal Yachting Association
This project united conservation organisations and boating and watersports partners to restore and protect sensitive marine habitats across southern England. By combining habitat restoration with sustainable infrastructure and community engagement, the initiative demonstrated the value of cross-sector collaboration in protecting the natural environments on which sport and recreation depend.

Rising Star ⭐
Spotlighting an emerging individual making waves in sustainable sport – through leadership, creativity or advocacy – opening up the next generation of sustainable sport leaders.
Tom Matthews
KitRound
Tom was recognised for his emerging leadership in the sector, especially due to his development of kitround360, an innovative tool measuring the impact of sports kit reuse. His work helped avoid more than 75,000 kg of CO₂e emissions while supporting grassroots sport and showcasing the potential of data-led, circular solutions.
