BASIS and the RSPB are proud to confirm a new partnership to develop best practice, advice and support in biodiversity and sustainability issues to the UK sport sector.Â
A new 3 year Memorandum of Understanding outlining areas for cooperation has been signed by both organisations, which seeks to advance sustainable development principles and environmental management practices in sport and recreation across the country. Â
The collaboration will kick off at BASIS’ National Sustainable Sport Conference at Emirates Old Trafford on 29-30 April, where Dr Marie Athorn, RSPB’s Business Conservation Adviser, will join a special panel on biodiversity in sport, and develop throughout the year with a series of initiatives including member-focused webinars, new research programmes, dissemination of resources and the opportunity to explore new practical guidance for BASIS members.Â
BASIS’ Dom Jordan, who signed the deal, said:Â
“I’m delighted to welcome RSPB into the BASIS family. For more than 130 years, the RSPB has worked to promote the conservation and protection of birds and the wider environment across the country, operating more than 200 reserves and helping to determine national conservation policy. Their experience is unparalleled, and the opportunity to benefit directly from their expertise – beginning at our conference – will be enormously valuable to our BASIS members.Â
Join the RSPB and BASIS, along with a stellar line up of speakers including Dame Katherine Grainger and Chris Boardman, at the National Sustainable Sport Conference in Manchester on April 29-30. Tickets available here.
