Gloucester Rugby recognises that it has a responsibility to the environment beyond legal and regulatory requirements.
We understand our place at the heart of the local community – the actions we take to improve environmental performance can hopefully help others to consider the choices they make in terms of impact on the environment.
A more sustainable club is also a more efficient club.
We recognise we are at the start of our journey in terms of formalising our sustainability strategy and agreeing targets for reducing our environmental impact, but taking sustainable actions is something the club has been doing for some time. We source our energy from renewable providers for the past few years, and we were among the first clubs in elite rugby to introduce Ecocups to reduce single use plastic in the stadium back in 2015.
We are taking the catering function in house from the end of this season, and this will allow us more control over food sources and packaging.
Whilst there is no shortage of resource and experts in the field of sustainability, we felt that membership of the BASIS group would give us access to best practice in sustainability and cutting-edge expertise specifically within the sporting industry.
The group has provided opportunities to connect with the most experienced group of sports managers with relevant experience of sustainability.
We’ve also found the BASIS team very easy to work with, providing dedicated support and expertise to help us connect with our audiences on sustainability.
It’s exciting to be taking our sustainability work to the next level and to be part of BASIS’ growing team.
