- Moredon Summer Race Series applied for the Accelerate grant to reduce the carbon footprint of their event series by encouraging riders, spectators, volunteers and officials to use sustainable methods of transport.
- As part of the Summer Series, the Lloyds National Disability and Para Cycling Road Series was held, where the Accelerate grant enabled the organiser to provide an adapted minibus, capable of taking wheelchairs, riders’ equipment, and escorts to and from Swindon Train Station, Moredon Sports Hub and local hotels. It was very well received by the community and was also used to transport volunteers and officials from Moredon Sports Hub to the time-trial venue (an 18-mile round trip), saving the use of numerous private vehicles.
Moredon Summer Race Series’ future plans:
We are also looking to have a local bike shop provide a dedicated mechanic at our events to provide support for riders who ride to event without the usual toolkit in the back of their cars.
The grant has allowed us to set the standards at a new cycling venue. We were the first events to be held at the venue and local riders have embraced the aims.
