The EFL is the largest single body of professional Clubs in European football and is responsible for administering and regulating the EFL, the Carabao Cup and the Bristol Street Motors Trophy, as well as reserve and youth football. Since 2021 EFL has run the EFL Green Clubs scheme, which supports participating clubs to understand and address their environmental impact. After an initial assessment by the scheme’s delivery partner, GreenCode, clubs are offered bespoke guidance and practical advice on how to implement change in their environmental operations. This is supported by an ongoing series of training and development offers by the EFL, GreenCode and other partners, aimed at facilitating actions to bring them closer to the scheme’s accreditation mark. The EFL also works closely with its charitable arm, EFL in the Community, which supports a network of 72 charitable Club Community Organisations to create stronger, healthier, more active communities. Our latest impact research estimates that EFL Clubs and their Community Organisations generated £865 million of social value across their community initiatives in the 2021/22 football season.
