Bankside Open Spaces Trust is an environmental and volunteering charity. We’ve been protecting, preserving and enhancing parks, gardens and other amenities in London’s SE1 and surrounding areas for 20 years.
Marlborough Sports Garden is Bankside Open Spaces Trust’s outdoor, multisport facility and community space. Free to access, it’s within walking distance of eight primary schools and offers a wide range of sporting activities, from football to roller skating, in addition to hosting community events.
We have plans to harness the potential of this unique space through our ambitious re-development capital project. Recently the site’s proposals picked up two design awards — winning the Future Place category at The Pineapples, which celebrate public spaces, and the Community Prize at the New London Architecture Awards.
With our architects, Cullinan Studio, we share the ambition to apply circular economy thinking to the design and work with Southwark Council to find how local people, particularly young people, can get involved in all stages of the project.
Marlborough Sports Garden is a case study in the ZAP project, which is developing scalable solutions to help combat avoidable packaging waste in the construction industry.
